The 5 Best Thriller Movies on Netflix That Will Keep You Hooked
Think about the last time you watched a thriller movie; chances are, you ended up staying up past your bedtime because you couldn’t stop watching it! Thriller movies are so addicting because there’s so much tension that keeps viewers on the edge of their seat and wanting more. On Netflix, there’s an endless list of thriller movies to watch, but sometimes it can be hard to pick which one to start first! Here are five thrillers that will keep you hooked and coming back for more.
1) A History of Violence
A History of Violence tells the story of a family man who is drawn into the criminal underworld when his past comes back to haunt him. The film, which was written and directed by David Cronenberg, is based on a graphic novel by John Wagner and Vince Locke. It stars Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello and Ed Harris. The film premiered at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival in France, where it competed for the Palme d'Or award. In 2006, the film was nominated for six Genie Awards: Best Motion Picture, Best Director (David Cronenberg), Best Actor (Viggo Mortenson), Best Actress (Maria Bello), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score. For this movie I would give it a 10/10 rating because there are so many thriller movies that are out there that are not very good. There are some really good ones but you have to find them through trial and error. I had no idea this movie existed until someone mentioned it as an option on Facebook. Now its one of my favorites because its a suspenseful psychological thriller that keeps you hooked throughout the entire show without having to use gore or jump scares like most horror movies do.
2) Identity
With so many thriller movies on Netflix to choose from, it can be difficult to determine which is worth your time. One of the best ways to find out if a movie is worth watching or not is by reading reviews. 3) Sicario
Sicario is a gripping and intense thriller about drug cartels, the Mexican-American border, and the battle for control of America. It's one of those movies that will leave you sitting up in bed with your heart racing trying to figure out what's going to happen next. The movie features Emily Blunt as Kate Macer who is an FBI agent drafted by Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) to work on a task force that's been set up to go after the Mexican drug cartels. Kate does not like this idea at first but she comes to understand how bad things have gotten along the U.S.-Mexico border and she ends up being instrumental in taking down some major players in Mexico's crime world.
The movie also stars Benicio Del Toro as Alejandro Gillick who is a mysterious man working both sides of the law but his intentions are never clear.
4) Blue Ruin
Blue Ruin is a 2014 American thriller drama film written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier. The film stars Macon Blair, Jason Burkett, Devin Ratray and Amy Hargreaves. It was shown in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
It's an unforgettable debut feature that has earned Jeremy Saulnier instant cult status among cinephiles and horror aficionados alike. Filmed for just $15,000 it tells the story of Dwight Evans (played brilliantly by Macon Blair), a man so steeped in grief over his parents' murder that he is ready to explode.
